Artist's Comments

This one was made for my mother as a birthday gift. It's a very personal piece as it immortalizes her parents. There is so much going on in this one, I can't even begin to point it out. As far as the main focal points go: The top left photo is a postcard from WWII that has my grandfather pictured on it! He is the one on the far right. The middle picture is both of my grandparents and the bottom right picture is who I believe to be my grandmother (sitting) and one of my aunts on her lap. I'm not sure who the standing woman is. Maybe someone from my grandfathers family. There are little bits of ephemera, images and stamps eluding to my families Italian heritage, travel for my grandfather being in the war and a domino with 9 dots symbolizing the 9 children my grandmother had. The attached tag has a bead with the letter M (for my mom, named Marie), my grandmothers maiden name and my grandfathers last name hidden among Italian postage and things like that... the back of the tag has a personal birthday message for my mom... she cried when I gave it to her! :)

Done on a 10x10 canvas with:
So much! Lots of layers of Golden brand fluid Acrylics, dressmakers pattern paper, printed paper, gel medium, Royal Coat Decoupage medium, archival ink (stamped and rubbed), quality copies of vintage photographs and postcards (to preserve my originals), Micron pens, embossing powder, fibers, beads and various other paper ephemera... I think I covered everything more or less.

The photograph is more or less pretty accurate except that the postcard image in the top left is much clearer in real life. I'm not sure why just that area came out slightly blurred in every picture...

Thanks a lot. This one is my absolute favorite so far. I used a lot of new techniques as well as materials. I think it is some of my best work yet. I've got more coming though! This weekend I should have more.
Thanks again for all your kind words. :) You made my day.

^epic! I love mixed media.

After looking through your gallery this is probably my favourite piece (a close second was the heart image :)). Dynamically the image works great; perfect composition (it directs my eye well) as well as awesome colours and textures.

The tag (postcard?) looks fantastic. It's a really great concept and very professionally done. *feels like stealing the tag idea haha. (just kidding :)!)

Very nice :+fav:

Wow! Thank you so much! This and the heart are also my favorites. This one was hugely experimental because I used so many new-to-me techniques and materials. I'm really happy with how it turned out considering it could have been a huge disaster.
The tag has post card pieces on it as well as postage but its small. My grandfather did a lot of traveling being in the war so that is for him. That and my great grandmother immigrated over from Italy, hence the Italian postage stamp.
Steal any ideas you want. As long as it'd not a photocopy, it's all good! :D

I'm not sure if it's called 'appropriation' or 'inspiration' :)

This piece is amazing! I love the color, and I really like the use of those designs behind the photos.
